Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO) represents Ontario’s publicly funded child development and rehabilitation sector helping kids with disabilities and their families live their best lives. With a mandate to connect member organizations, effectively share data and encourage collaboration, they embarked on redeveloping their website to meet the needs of their member organizations.

Making knowledge more accessible, for those who need it most

EKO provides member organizations with access to a robust resource library and opportunities for collaboration, but has been limited in its reach with an outdated and inaccessible website. Planning for a new website with refreshed branding, easier access to resources and mobile friendly became a top priority to ensure EKO is able to keep up with member needs.

Process

Giving members a voice

With an eager team of consultants and board members eager to get a modern and refreshed website live, I was brought in to help define the project, develop our strategy and provide UX, design and development support along the way. Given the importance of the success of the project and subject matter, we pivoted from focusing on new member acquisition and CRM integration, to ensuring a final product that saw the biggest increases in engagement and data sharing. 

 

Discover

  • Sat in on multiple internal meetings discussing the goals and outcomes expected of the project 
  • Worked closely with key stakeholders to determine primary objectives based on their organization’s mandates
  • Consolidated member feedback from advisory group
  • Performed page by page audit of current website 
  • Reviewed process for maintaining and updating content fro both a user and development perspective

  • Reimagined how to organize and provide resources to increase engagement

  • Streamlined the segmented and confusing navigation structure for each target audience
  • Ensured each member could have a unique experience when logged in with they own mini-resource library, inbox and custom notifications

  • Completed design and develop on Lemonaid CMS working in-tandem with Blue Lemon Media
  • Worked closely with the backend development team to craft execution strategies
  • Created interactive video walkthrough to help onboard users and show new features

Outcome

3…2…1…Launch!

After 18 months of stakeholder interviews, member profiling, data collection and resource management, we are finally ready to roll the final product our to our member organizations.  In preparation for launch end of October 2022, an interactive walkthrough was prepared to help onboard member organizations and show off all the new features!  Early user acceptance testing was very well received and they expect a significant increase in data and knowledge sharing, and most importantly, better outcomes for the children of Ontario.
